The only word that can describe the last week or so is "puke". It's been a puke-y holiday for the kids. Blood and chaos withstanding, nothing quite says "Merry Christmas" like a nice eruption of vomit. Elliott puked in the car on the way to PA (of course this is nothing unusual for the girl). Janna spent the week of Christmas projectile vomiting all over the furniture (and whoever was holding her) at my Mom's house. And Gabriel booted all over the car twice (and dining room) over the holidays, too.
Now that we're home, the only change is from Janna - she must have depleted her supply of gross-ness. I think her problem was that there was too much excitement. Gabriel and Elliott now have what I can only assume is some sort of stomach bug. Both of them are barf-y and warm. I hate being sick myself, so I feel terrible when my little kiddos don't feel good. That being said, they better not give it to me!! Or Janna!

The Girl Who Cried Potty
I love the fact that Elliott is almost completely potty-trained, but I could live without her never-ending demand to be pottied. At least once every 10 minutes, she asks to go pee-pee or poopy - and when either Jon or I take her, nothing happens. Well, that's not entirely true...she giggles instead of tinkles. She thinks she's so funny. I hate to not take her though, because I know that one of these days she's really going to need to go and that's the time that I will refuse to take her. And to make things worse, she has really started picking up the pace of her demands this week. This is a problem because we're visiting my Mom in PA, and her bathroom is on the other side of the house - a haul for a little girl whimpering and holding herself. So far there haven't been any accidents (yes, I am knocking on wood right now)...

He Keeps Me In Stitches...
'tis the season for
the colors of red and green
good thing blood is red
My son really does keep me in stitches. He is quite possibly the funniest person I know. Yesterday was his preschool Christmas Pageant. Hilarious is the only word to describe it. An unruly bunch of three-year-olds carrying giant plastic people...you can imagine the chaos that ensued. And my son led the way! He got to "be" Joseph - which means he carried one of those big plastic dudes that churches have for an outdoor Nativity. He proudly carried his Joseph through the church, and sat down beside him. When the pastor started telling the tale of the first Christmas, Gabriel started to fidget. When Pastor K. got to the part where the angel told Mary she was having a baby, my son explodes with this loud noise - somewhere between a baby cry and a laugh. That was it...no other kid could be quiet or still. And it was hilarious. Kids running up to the edge of the alter yelling for Moms, Dads, sisters; screaming about having to pee and the need for shoes to be tied. And then there was the singing. Again - hilarious. Every time a song was about to begin, my son would yell, "Behold (his new favorite word)!!" So, the morning was spent laughing at the sight and sounds of preschoolers doing their best to re-create the first Christmas.
Gabriel also keeps himself in stitches - literally. After the festivities at preschool, we came home for lunch and naps. Jon left after lunch, and I got the kids ready for a rest. Gabriel didn't want to sleep in his bed, he wanted his sleeping bag. I said no, he flipped out. So, I made him a deal - if he would sleep in his bed, he could call Gramma to see if she had a special sleeping bag he could sleep in over the holidays. He agreed, but insisted that he call Gramma before the nap began. All I wanted was a moment of peace, so *sigh*, I agreed. I told him to go downstairs while I tucked Elliott in. I was just about done covering Elliott, and CRASH! I hear Gabriel fall down the steps. Then he starts shrieking about blood. BLOOD?? I jumped Elliott's gate and ran down the steps to see my son standing in a puddle of blood - it was pouring out of his head, but I couldn't determine which part of his head. I grabbed some washcloths and tried to stop the bleeding - which was coming from his forehead. I called Jon (who hadn't even reached his office yet) , and left a message for him to call me ASAP. He called back a few minutes later and came right back home - I don't even think he took his jacket off. A friend came over to watch the girls, and Jon and I took Gabriel to the ER. After the nurse got his head all cleaned up, we could see how big Gabe's boo-boo really was. It was impressive! Over 3cm long, about a quarter of an inch wide, and pretty deep. 2.5 hours and 8 stitches later we left the hospital. Good times!! And the good times were captured on film! I had my camera with me, so I took pictures.
After we got home, Gabriel let us know that he had a good time at "that place with the lights", and that he wanted to call everyone and tell them about his "ties". I am so proud of my Boy. He was such a trooper. He never cried or freaked out while the doc was stitching his head closed. He just laid there all calm. He wanted to see what was happening, and was very interested with all of it. I was a nervous wreck. I have never seen that much blood in my life, and I hope never to again.

O Christmas Tree
the tree is all done
or so i keep saying, but
i found more to hang
Our tree is up and decorated. Getting it there was a hassle! We got the tree Wednesday evening from a local Farm and Country place (it was CHEAP for a tree...$19.99). We got it all dried out and ready to decorate Thursday morning (when we got it, it was covered with snow). Jon went to work, and I set out to at least get the thing lit before playgroup at 10. I plugged in the lights, all of them worked. Yippee! I unplugged them, climbed a chair, and started getting them all situated on the tree. Then I plugged the tree in...nothing. No lights. So I swore (sometimes it helps) and jiggled the strands. The clear ones turned right on! The colored ones (I stripe my tree) still wouldn't work. So I swore some more, and the red and green ones came on. The yellow and blue refused to work. It had already been a crappy week, and this just set me off. I just started crying. My pal, Katie, called and she brightened me up a bit. So, I gave up for a while so I could concentrate on playgroup. By the end of it, I was completely calmed down (thanks, ladies) and ready to make those lights work. I promised Gabriel that by the time he got up from his nap, the tree would be glowing. So I went through the entire tree checking each blue and yellow light. It took a while, but I fixed them! I spent the afternoon decorating, and the end result is pictured above.
I love Christmas trees - the smell, the lights and decorations, I just love them. But I am so sick of the hassle and mess. If I would be able to live with myself, I would buy a faux tree. I just can't bring myself to do it. So, even though I was ready to shove the tree out the back door yesterday, I'm glad I managed to calm myself down enough to get the thing all prettied up. I love the way it looks, and the kids are thrilled with it!
